US Embassy: Genocide denial offends victims

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The US Embassy commented on Twitter and called on the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH to heed the calls of High Representative Christian Schmidt to adopt amendments to the Criminal Code that meet the standards for BiH's path to the EU and reconciliation.

"The United States strongly supports working through BiH's institutions to reach agreements on issues concerning the citizens of BiH. Denial of genocide and war crimes and glorification of war criminals offends victims and their families and keeps BiH trapped in a divided past, while acknowledging individual responsibility contributes to mutual trust. Establishing an institutionalized process for reconciliation and urgently addressing the lack of transitional justice will help ensure that all victims are shown the respect they deserve," they wrote.

Schmidt sent a letter to the colleagues of both houses of the PS BiH asking Parliament to adopt the law, after which he would withdraw the imposed law that Valentin Inzko published just before leaving BiH.

What is important to say, Inzko wrote in his decision that the PS BiH is obliged to adopt the law in the same form, without amendments and without additional conditions.
