Why shouldn't one trust Schmidt when he says he will use the Bonn Powers for the Law on the Constitutional Court of BiH?

"When it comes to state property, you will soon hear comprehensive things from me that will also apply to Republika Srpska," said Christian Schmidt on October 9, 2022, on Face TV.

Two full years have passed since then, and we haven't heard anything noteworthy regarding state property.

Last night, on the same TV channel, Schmidt made promises. The High Representative said he is ready to use the Bonn Powers to prevent the adoption of controversial amendments to the Law on the Constitutional Court of BiH, which are in parliamentary procedure (!?).

Are there enough naive people to believe this man's word?

"We need to see how we will proceed with the House of Peoples. We have a blockade due to an unconstitutional draft law proposed by a member of the Serb Club. I think we need to find a way out of this blockade," said Schmidt.

And the way is simple. The draft law should be removed from the procedure, not pressure put on the Bosniak Club, which found the only way to ensure that such a law does not move forward.

At the same time, the initiatives in which delegates are asking for written confirmation that such a law will not pass the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament are quite logical. However, it would be most realistic to withdraw it from the procedure, and then Schmidt can use his intentions to use the Bonn Powers.

It should be borne in mind that Bosniaks, in their struggle for truth, have never been motivated by hatred against the other and different, but by freeing the victim from fear through the culture of remembrance, in the name of a better future. And Schmidt hasn't helped us much in that.

And precisely in this lies all the naivety of those who still believe in the sincere intentions of Christian Schmidt, the High Representative in BiH.

In fact, we can now expect some new story about genocide, which always intensifies at the moment of making crucial decisions that are extremely important for the survival of the Bosnian being as a political entity. Ultimately, for the survival of the state.

And it will be the High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt, who, after the former High Representative Valentin Inzko imposed amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH, which prohibit the denial of genocide, will impose amendments to the Election Law of BiH.

The imposed amendments to the Election Law of BiH essentially satisfied the demands of the HDZ regarding changes to the Election Law of BiH, and the final solution is based on variations of the demands of the HDZ BiH and Dragan Čović.

Why, then, should we believe today that Schmidt, especially after the publication of his letter to the Court in Strasbourg in the case of 'Kovačević', will do something that leads to the complete healing of BiH society. On the contrary, all his promises should be taken with a grain of salt, because the international community must finally be judged by its actions, not its words.
