(Patria) - Moscow and Belgrade are seeking an optimal solution for the company NIS in order to overcome the problems artificially created by the US administration, said the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova in a comment published on the ministry's website, TASS reported.
The energy industry remains one of the key sectors in the interaction between Russia and Serbia, Zakharova pointed out.
The privatisation of NIS was formalised by a Russian-Serbian intergovernmental agreement concluded in 2008, and Washington was never involved in that agreement in any way, she said.
"In the current environment, our Serbian partners and I must seek an optimal solution to overcome the problems artificially created by the US administration," Zakharova said.
"We will do so relying on the 2008 agreement, while necessarily taking into account the interests of Russia and Serbia," she added.
