Boycott of stores announced for today in BiH

(Patria) - Following the action in Croatia, calls for a boycott of stores have spread through social networks in BiH as well, in order for citizens to clearly let retailers know that they have had enough of rising prices.

The initiators of the action called on citizens not to buy anything today and to secure necessary groceries in advance, and to avoid spending in catering establishments.

Many believe that this will be a good message, but there are also those who are skeptical and think that the boycott will not have any significant effects, neither on retail trade, employer revenues, nor on the quality of life of consumers.

- We do not expect any economic effects, nor any damage to anyone. Because, most certainly, citizens will buy what they need today or on Saturday - believes the president of the Association of Consumers of TK, Gordana Bulić.

The president of the Trade and Services Workers' Union, Mersiha Beširović, is of the opinion that this action should be a signal that the awareness of BiH citizens is awakening.

- We will see what the epilogue of this action will be on Friday. In my opinion, there are a few things that make me personally skeptical about this action.

First of all, unlike, for example, Croatia, and even Montenegro, as we see, and Serbia, no organization or consumer association stands behind this action.

In my opinion, that is a signal that it is purely an indicator of whether we are ready for such an action at all, rather than having a concrete goal and clearly defined demands behind it - adds Beširović.

Through their activities, consumers want to point out the imbalance of power of retailers towards consumers and the unilateral determination of prices and profits.

- Here, the voice of the consumer is, in essence, a warning to all those who unreasonably increase prices, who simply do not listen, have no feelings, have no empathy towards people who live very difficult lives and who, unfortunately, at the expense of these very people, this poorest segment, build their careers, businesses, empires by taking very high profits, and precisely on basic food products - added Bulić.

On the other hand, Beširović points out that the boycott will not bring the desired effect.

- I expect that today, or in the afternoon, there will be a huge rush in retail stores and shopping malls, which then, ultimately, calls into question the boycott itself. Because, why boycott if we are going to buy what we need for tomorrow today - Beširović said yesterday.

Simultaneously with the actions in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, a boycott of stores was also announced in Montenegro.

Today's boycott of stores in BiH is a kind of call for employers, as well as state institutions that have tools in their hands to bring some things under control in the BiH market, to reconsider.
