Tent settlement removed: No more 'Ćacilend'

(Patria) - The tent settlement that was set up in front of the National Assembly of Serbia, known as "Ćacilend", was removed during the day in Belgrade.

This ended the multi-week stay of demonstrators and government supporters in that area.

According to Serbian media, the location in front of the Assembly will soon have a new purpose, as the installation of a so-called Christmas or New Year's village intended for all citizens is planned.

The removal of the tents followed an announcement by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who had previously stated that he wanted the area to be transformed into a place for gatherings and a festive atmosphere.

He also announced that Pionirski park would be reopened to traffic.

Let us recall that Vučić stated in his recent address in front of the Assembly that elections in Serbia are expected to be held next year.

The tent settlement was formed after mass student protests triggered by the tragedy at the railway station in Novi Sad, when the canopy collapsed.

In addition to the group presenting themselves as "students who want to learn", numerous supporters of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party also stayed in "Ćacilend".
