Serbia to begin conscription recruitment in September

(Patria) - Serbian Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić stated that he expects recruitment for mandatory military service to begin in September, with the first conscripts arriving at barracks in March of next year.

"We are ready and I am very proud of all members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army who have worked very diligently over the past year to prepare the conditions for the reception of the first conscripts," said Gašić.

He told RTS that recruitment will commence after the competent institution assesses that mandatory military service can enter the process through the adoption of a law before the National Assembly of Serbia.

Gašić said that the security situation in the world and the region is very complex and that regular military service is being reintroduced in other countries as well because it has proven to be a necessity.
