Two-day boycott of retail chains in Montenegro

(Patria) - A two-day boycott of retail chains began today in Montenegro due to high prices, called for by the non-governmental association Alternativa.

Residents of Montenegro are called upon to not shop in large stores today and tomorrow, but to shop in small stores with a maximum of ten employees if they must.

"Every day we witness unprecedented price increases for basic products, while the owners of large chains accumulate profits at the expense of the people. It is time to say – enough. This is the voice of the people. If we do not stop this insolence now, tomorrow we will pay gold for bread. Montenegro is rising against greed. United, in unison, persistent," emphasize Alternativa.

The same non-governmental association organized a boycott of stores in Montenegro last Friday, when, according to data from the Tax Administration of Montenegro, the five largest retail chains recorded a drop in turnover of 56.14 percent.

Last week, the largest number of residents from the northern part of Montenegro responded to the call for a boycott of large stores, while the response was somewhat lower in the central and southern parts of Montenegro, Hina reminds.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić also supported the boycott at the time.
