Woman from Split chains herself to a palm tree in front of the city administration in protest

(Patria) - Vanja Šimleša, née Šegvić, chained herself to a palm tree in front of the Split city administration this morning, reports Dalmatinski portal.

The reason for her protest is a more than three-decade-long fight for an apartment that the City was obliged to provide her after her family home was demolished due to the construction of the Muslimanke building in Domovinskog rata Street.

She is the only one who has not been compensated, and she currently lives as a tenant in Plokite.

- My roots are 400 years in Split, I have a street, but I don't have the apartment they stole from me - says the embittered woman from Split.

She was evicted from her house while she was at work; they cut off her water and electricity supply. Everyone, she says, received money and without a buyout, but she did not.

For the past 30 years, she has appealed to all city administrations, and they have all ignored her.

The current mayor, Ivica Puljak, did the same. But no one has any understanding for her problem.

- I have my medication, that's all I need. I will be here until I die - adds the embittered woman.
