(Patria) - Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob stated yesterday that his country will allocate an additional 2.5 million euros for aid to Palestine through various United Nations (UN) programs.
Golob said that the resolution on Gaza, adopted by the UN Security Council on Monday, offers hope for a two-state solution.
He made these remarks on the sidelines of a conference on humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip in Jordan, after the Security Council adopted a resolution on a ceasefire in Gaza. Russia abstained during the vote, while the remaining 14 Council members voted "yes".
Meanwhile, Golob met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Jordan, with whom he discussed the latest developments in Palestine.
The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Abbas met with Golob in Amman and that the Palestinian president thanked him for recognizing Palestine as a state.
- The decision to recognize the Palestinian state will contribute to preserving the two-state solution, which has been systematically destroyed, and will contribute to security, peace, and stability for all - Abbas stated.
Golob said that his country supports the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and emphasized that Palestinians have the right to self-determination and the creation of an independent state on their land.
He stressed the necessity of establishing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and sending humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
