(Patria) - On December 31, 2025, the BiH Prosecutor's Office filed seven war crimes indictments: five against members of the Army of RBiH and two against members of the VRS. It did not file any against members of the HVO.
This continues the long-standing practice of filing indictments towards the end of the year, apparently to meet quotas, with particular attention paid to "equating guilt".
Such an approach serves the narrative that all sides in Bosnia and Herzegovina committed crimes equally, that there was no aggression, and that the war was exclusively civil and religious, warns Jasmin Šaljić, a Party for BiH representative in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly (KS), in a statement to the Patria News Agency (NAP).
One of the indictments relates to the shelling of Vitez and the killing of eight children, and it was filed against a member of the Army of RBiH. According to the BiH Prosecutor's Office, command staff who allegedly directly supervised the firing of the shell were also in position.
After the indictment was filed, HVO veteran associations publicly expressed satisfaction, stating that they had provided operational data to the BiH Prosecutor's Office and expected a conviction.
Šaljić says the question is rightly asked how it is possible that the BiH Prosecutor's Office has not filed a single indictment for the killing of 1,601 children in Sarajevo?
- For the siege and shelling of Sarajevo, only Stanislav Galić and Dragomir Milošević, VRS generals who commanded the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps of the so-called VRS, were convicted in The Hague.
They were convicted based on command responsibility. However, where are the perpetrators at lower levels of direct responsibility, where are the immediate perpetrators - those who carried out the orders, commanded the crews and the firing of projectiles.
These two so-called generals did not fire millions of shells themselves, nor could they have operated hundreds of tanks, cannons, and mortar crews alone while simultaneously ordering and firing from sniper nests and positions around the city.
The mentioned artillery weapons - cannons, tanks, and mortars - require crews of several people each. Around the city, there were approximately 150 tanks, 200 mortars of 120 mm caliber, the same number of 80 mm caliber, dozens of cannons and howitzers, and several multiple rocket launchers (VBR).
By simple calculation, about 600 crews of three or four members each implies at least 2,000 immediate perpetrators, meaning potentially 2,000 indictments, and that's without snipers, mercenaries, and various paramilitary formations whose names were often in the media and publicly known - Šaljić points out.
He emphasizes that the prosecutor's office has had all the data on immediate perpetrators, units, commanders, and zones of responsibility for years. Despite this, almost no proceedings have been initiated for the mass killings of children in Sarajevo.
- Instead of several thousand responsible individuals, it turns out that the only culprits for all the crimes and killings of over 12,000 residents and 50,000 wounded civilians, and the killing of 1,601 children, are the human scum, the so-called generals Galić and Milošević. The others are amnestied - Šaljić concludes in his statement to NAP.
