Clock hand of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus saved, special permits needed for repair as it is a national monument

(Patria) - Strong wind damaged the clock on the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sarajevo this morning, causing one of the clock hands to fall off, but it was found and saved.

Rector of the Cathedral Marko Zubak told Patria that the clock will be repaired when conditions allow, and given that the Cathedral is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, special permits are required for any works and repairs.

The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has been declared a national monument since 2005 and is subject to protection measures established by the Law on the Implementation of Decisions of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments, established pursuant to Annex 8 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Only restoration and conservation works on the national monument are permitted, with the approval of the federal ministry responsible for spatial planning and the expert supervision of the competent heritage protection service at the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina level.

All protection works, regardless of their type and scope, must be carried out based on prior approval from the competent ministry, according to the decision of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments.

Rector Zubak urged citizens to be cautious as strong winds continue to blow, and it is unknown what condition the other clock hand is in and whether it could also fall off due to adverse weather conditions.
