
(Patria) - Gendarmerie officer M. J. was shot in the neck with a crossbow in front of the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade. In self-defense, he returned fire and subdued the attacker, who died from his injuries. The Gendarmerie officer sustained serious injuries and is in the Emergency Center.
The attack occurred in the police booth in front of the embassy.
According to unofficial information obtained by an RTS reporter, the attacker approached the booth where the Gendarmerie officer responsible for securing the facility was located, opened the door, and shot him in the neck.
In self-defense, the Gendarmerie officer opened fire and shot the attacker, who succumbed to his wounds.
The investigation is ongoing.
Minister of Police Ivica Dačić announced that an unknown person, whose identity is being determined, fired a crossbow at a Gendarmerie officer on duty securing the Israeli Embassy.
“Today around 11 AM, an unknown person, whose identity is being determined, fired a crossbow at a Gendarmerie officer on duty securing the Israeli Embassy, hitting him in the neck. Gendarmerie officer M. J. (born 1990) used his weapon in self-defense and subdued the attacker, who died from his wounds,” Dačić stated.
The officer was transported to the Emergency Center conscious, where surgery will be performed to remove the arrow from his neck.
“All circumstances of the attack and possible motives are being investigated,” said Minister Dačić, who will visit the wounded Gendarmerie officer at the Emergency Center, RTS reports.
