President of the Supreme Court of Croatia Radovan Dobronić passed away

(Patria) - President of the Supreme Court of Croatia Radovan Dobronić passed away at the age of 65.

Dobronić suffered from prostate cancer, and his condition rapidly worsened in the last month.

He was born in Čakovec in 1960. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, after which he was employed at Zagrebačka banka.

After the bank, he moved to the State Directorate for Commodity Reserves as the head of the legal, personnel, and general department.

He continued his career at the Commercial Court in Zagreb, where he began working as a judge on March 1, 1996.

At that time, he passed all exams in postgraduate studies in commercial law, and defended his master's thesis in December 1998.

He is known to the general public as the judge who ruled in favor of numerous small savers in the 'Swiss Franc' case.

In October 2021, the Croatian Parliament elected him as the president of the Supreme Court with 120 parliamentary votes, and only three MPs voted against his election.

He received more votes than a two-thirds majority, with 101 parliamentary votes sufficient even for constitutional changes.
