(Patria) - A three-day mourning period began today in Novi Sad following yesterday's accident at the railway station when a concrete canopy collapsed.

Fourteen people died, while three were seriously injured. Police forces are still deployed around the railway station today, preventing access to the scene of the tragedy.

Citizens are spontaneously gathering across from the station, leaving candles and toys, thereby paying tribute to the victims, among whom were children.

On Novi Sad's main square, citizens have also left candles, as well as messages to the authorities demanding accountability.

Although the authorities claim that no reconstruction of the canopy was carried out, numerous photos and videos from a few months ago show that this part was indeed being added to.

Due to the additional weight, the canopy collapsed.

Citizens we spoke with emphasize that they do not remember such a tragedy and demand accountability from all who contributed to this accident.
