(Patria) - The blockade of the Varadin Bridge in Novi Sad has begun due to the tragedy that occurred a week ago when the canopy collapse at the Railway Station killed 14 people and left three seriously injured.
The organizers announced that the bridge blockade would last until midnight, and addresses by activists are also planned.
The gathered citizens insist that the Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, and the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, also resign, and that the confidentiality markings be removed from the contracts for the reconstruction of the Railway Station.
The Minister of Construction of Serbia, Goran Vesić, has already resigned, and the prosecutor's office has so far heard several dozen people. There are still no suspects in connection with this tragedy.
In the meantime, the authorities are arresting activists and citizens who participated in the protest on November 5.
"Those responsible for this tragedy must know that citizens will not give up on their demands and will tirelessly insist on their resignations, court proceedings, and the publication of contracts. Through such actions, we show them that we are persistent and that there are enough of us," the organizers stated.
Citizens were advised to bring red paint, warm clothing, styrofoam or cardboard, books, personal documents, and also told that it is always good to bring baking soda, a cloth, or a scarf in case the police use tear gas.
Let us recall, at the protest in Novi Sad on November 5, a large number of citizens gathered, but upon arriving in the city center, riots occurred and the City Hall was vandalized.
The opposition blamed "infiltrated elements" sent by the authorities, while the authorities shifted the blame to the opposition, stating that they want to politically profit from the tragedy.
