Nermin Nikšić, SDP and the Trojka are hard to take seriously today when it comes to political responsibility.
It's hard to recall such arrogance, where illegal actions by those in power are presented as 'completely normal'.
A scandal of unprecedented proportions with the publication of messages between Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić, FUP Director Vahidin Munjić, and police officer Muhamed Ohranović clearly shows how problematic the thin line between politics and security institutions has become.
Problematic for everyone, except Nikšić himself, who apparently finds it perfectly fine for a police officer loyal to him, Ohranović, to effectively become the boss of the FUP director, and for competitions to be rigged for suitable candidates close to SDP and Trojka.
After it was revealed how the prime minister is looking for 'spengavanje' (a colloquial term for illicit gains or favors) and sees no problem with it, the story of the celebration in Konjic makes full sense.
Namely, at a celebration after SDP entered power, Nikšić told a close circle of SDP members, 'I didn't take anything last term, this term I'll take everything I can, my pension is coming anyway.' I heard this story in 2023 from people who were at the mentioned celebration.
Nikšić's arrogant statement today that he 'wrote and will continue to write' not only reveals his attitude towards professional boundaries but also towards the citizens whose trust he was supposed to protect.
He didn't gain their trust anyway; he entered power solely thanks to Christian Schmidt and his impositions, which further indicates that he is not accountable to the citizens, as his prime ministerial term is the result of an imposed election, not real political legitimacy.
Today he went a step further, saying it's a lie that Dodik cursed genocide at the ruling coalition meeting in Konjic, so it's unclear why he let so much time pass to reveal the truth! Of course, Nikšić's truth can simply be called a LIE.
Because, when we talk about responsibility, we cannot fail to recall his earlier statement from January 2023, that he would apologize to the public if it turned out they were wrong about Dodik. At that time, the leaders of Trojka claimed that 'some other Dodik' was on the scene, 'some other policy of compromise and agreement.' Today, that seems almost ironic.
Nikšić has not only broken his word but also shows that for him, political responsibility only exists when it is convenient for political marketing. He said then that he would apologize and then leave power. But, to this day, he has never apologized, while he firmly holds onto the chair from which he 'spengava'.
Trojka entered power with SNSD and HDZ without clear red lines, ignoring all risks. The result is a blocked parliament, frustrated citizens, the fact that we don't have a budget even towards the end of the year, while we are constantly facing threats of overthrowing the constitutional order, which no one is prosecuting for now.
All this is happening at a time when the United States is slowly removing Dodik's associates from the sanctions list, suggesting that an agreement has been made somewhere far away.
This is not just a matter of a policy of compromise as advocated by Trojka's experts; it is a matter of credibility and trust. Nikšić openly shows us that he is ready to ignore all norms and boundaries, while Trojka continues to hide responsibility for blockades and failures, boasting that they have 'sent Dodik into the past.'
