Surveillance cameras in the tram that derailed were not working, last recordings were from November last year

(Patria) - Footage from surveillance cameras in the tram that derailed does not exist.

Surveillance cameras, as Istraga.ba learns, had not been working in that tram since November last year. At least that's what officials from the company BS Telecom, which maintained video surveillance in GRAS vehicles, told investigators. Behind the company BS Telecom is Elvedin Grabovica, the grey eminence of SDP BiH.

- There was a camera in the driver's cabin, and it was seized during the expert examination. I think it will show many things, it is at the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the KS Prosecutor's Office and it will show many things - said the Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Šteta, on February 16, speaking about the tram accident in which one person died and four were injured.

However, Šteta's hope is in vain. There is no footage from the tram because the recording system has been "out of order" since the end of November 2025. Three sources from Istraga involved in the investigation confirmed that the server located in the derailed tram is out of order.

According to the Rulebook on Video Surveillance Systems in GRAS Tram Vehicles, "the video surveillance system includes internal cameras located in every part of the tram vehicle and the driver's cabin, which record appearance and movement of persons without sound".

"One camera in the driver's cabin records the driver's area and the entrance of the front door. One camera in each part of the tram records the interior of that part and the doors from the inside in that part. Four cameras are installed in each tram," the Rulebook states.

According to Article 8 of the Rulebook, recording devices are located in the trams. However, in the tram that derailed, this system was not working.

That the company maintaining the system did not take care is also proven by Article 7 of the Rulebook, which states that data on the server located in the tram is stored for 30 days.

Given that the system has been out of order since November last year, and the accident occurred in February this year, it is unclear how GRAS and the company maintaining this system did not notice the malfunction.

The system, as we mentioned, was maintained by the company BS Telecom, with which the Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Šteta, signed video surveillance contracts.

- I am satisfied to say that video surveillance has been installed in all trams - said Minister Šteta in July 2022.

He added that "based on all the research conducted by the Ministry of Transport and direct conversations with citizens, one of the three biggest problems citizens face is safety in public transport".

- We expect video surveillance to contribute to faster reactions of the MUP of KS in resolving all situations, from protecting our citizens, destroying vehicles and property of all of us, to finding those who commit offenses - said Minister Šteta at the time, whose favorite IT company was also BS Telecom, behind which stood Elvedin Grabovica, i.e., the president of SDP, Nermin Nikšić.

We remind you that a GRAS tram derailed on February 12. Following the accident, the tram driver Adnan Kasapović was arrested on the order of the KS Prosecutor's Office. The judge for preliminary proceedings of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo rejected the motion for detention.

In the meantime, the Prosecutor's Office issued orders for the seizure of documentation and recordings that could clarify this case. However, when investigators seized the server from the tram, they determined that it was out of order.
