MVP and Konaković remain silent: What else does Kalabuhov need to do to become a 'persona non grata'?

By Delvin Kovač

Ambassador Igor Kalabuhov is once again in action. And again, in a Putin-esque style, he is being undiplomatic and threatening. And who else but Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he has been a guest as a diplomat since the end of 2020. And since then, he has not been subjected to a single unpleasantness, yet he is doing his best to impose his country on his hosts, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the only relevant one and of crucial importance for their daily lives and peaceful future.

Ambassador Kalabuhov is bothered by the fact that Bosnian officials with a patriotic prefix express their own views in international waters, not the views ordered by one of their neighboring countries. If, by chance, Željka Cvijanović and/or Milorad Dodik had visited Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, they would naturally have represented the views of official Belgrade - read Aleksandar Vučić - read further Vladimir Putin. And in that case, Ambassador Kalabuhov would certainly have welcomed their statements, because they would have spoken the language of Moscow in Serbian.

However, since Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović, members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose only homeland is Bosnia and Herzegovina and who are not obliged to follow directives from Croatia or Serbia, are currently in the capital of Ukraine, Ambassador Kalabuhov was clearly not pleased at all that the Ukrainian public had the opportunity through the words of these two to witness the identical opinion of the vast majority of Bosnians and Herzegovinians who are very well aware of everything that Ukrainians have been going through for the past year and a half, exposed to brutal Russian aggression.

Ambassador Kalabuhov should know that he cannot openly threaten someone and at the same time expect to enjoy all the benefits of hospitality in the capital of a country at whose expense he has repeatedly issued threats. Of course, we do not forget Kalabuhov's words from mid-March last year, when he proudly announced that his capital would "respond proportionally" if Bosnia and Herzegovina dared to become a member of NATO. Although neither he nor Moscow should interfere in such a matter, as such a decision rests solely with the Bosnian authorities and politicians.

If, in any other serious country, Ambassador Kalabuhov, a diplomat had made such inappropriate, too serious, and ultimately extremely arrogant statements of his homeland for diplomats, he would have been immediately expelled and with the eternal stamp of "persona non grata" would have had to leave immediately. However, you are lucky that Vladimir Putin sent you to a country where, primarily due to politicians from the Republika Srpska entity, the Dayton Peace Agreement from 1995, of which Russia is one of the witnesses, allows you fertile ground for implementing his insane ideas.

Bosnian state institutions are silent for now in response to Kalabuhov's poisoned arrows. Neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MVP) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, nor Minister Elmedin Konaković, who is apparently too busy these days fulfilling the wishes of coalition partners Dragan Čović and Milorad Dodik, is making any statement. With such a lukewarm attitude of the competent authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina towards protecting their only homeland, especially from external attacks, it is completely clear to Ambassador Kalabuhov that in our country he can openly say what Putin thinks without fear of any consequences, and openly support everything that has the prefix of Serbian, against everything Bosnian. Therefore, unfortunately, all that remains for us is to feel on our own skin what Ambassador Kalabuhov meant by Moscow's response to the "hostile actions" of Komšić and Bećirović in Kyiv.
