(Patria) - The Commission for Deciding on Conflict of Interest has opened a case against Croatian President Zoran Milanović because he took his wife, Sanja Musić Milanović, to last night's match between Croatia and Italy.
"The Commission received a report today regarding the travel of the President of the Republic of Croatia to the Croatian national football team's match in Leipzig, accompanied by his wife.
Based on the aforementioned report, the Commission has opened a case and will examine all relevant facts and circumstances.
If it determines that the conditions for further proceedings are met, it will, in accordance with Article 42 of the Law on Prevention of Conflict of Interest, request a statement from the obligated party and will then include the case on the agenda of a future session," confirmed the Commission's spokesperson Mia Jurinić to Index.hr.
Milanović and his wife watched the European Championship match from the VIP box of the stadium in Leipzig, Germany. They shook hands and chatted with a number of other guests, including former national team player Šime Vrsaljko.
The President's Office previously announced that Milanović was invited to the match by UEFA President Aleksandar Čeferin.
They announced that the President's Office representative Orsat Miljenić and the President's Commissioner for Sport Tomislav Paškvalin would also attend the match with Milanović.
As a reminder, last week the Commission opened a case against the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, because he took his son on a state plane to the match between Croatia and Spain in Berlin.
"Should the kid have gone with his dad? Yes, he should have," Milanović defended Jandroković at the time.
When asked further if the Commission had opened a case, Milanović replied: "Let them open a case.".
