(Patria) – About fifty masked men appeared tonight in front of the Serbian Cultural Center in Zagreb, where a cultural exhibition was being held. The gathered individuals chanted "Za dom spremni" and sang the song "O Hrvatska, o Hrvatska, nezavisna država" (Oh Croatia, Oh Croatia, Independent State), after which they left the scene.
Several members of the intervention police were present at the scene, and according to the portal Index.hr, additional police teams are on their way.
The incident in Zagreb comes just a few days after a similar group of masked men disrupted an event at the Serbian Cultural Center in Split. Three people were detained at that time.
According to statements from some participants, the reason for the gathering was the timing of the event. They claim that in November, the month commemorating the fall of Vukovar, "there is no place for Serbian cultural events".
One of them, Željko Botica, stated that they are "provoked by the holding of Serbian events in November", while another, Vjekoslav Letica, said that "one should not talk about Serbian culture until the remains of 1740 missing Croatian defenders are found".
Some of the gathered individuals also cited the location of the event as a reason for their dissatisfaction, as the Serbian Cultural Center is located near a mural dedicated to a deceased Croatian defender.
The Croatian police have not yet officially commented on this incident.
