"You are the greatest philosopher when you remain silent about things you don't know."
I first heard that sentence during my journalism studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Sarajevo at a lecture by Prof. Dr. Besim Spahić about 15 years ago. The amount and variety of information he spoke during lectures would be hard for anyone to read today even if it were written down, let alone spoken from memory, from the past, from the present. Clearly, fluently, listenably, and memorably.
For the purposes of this text, I will not mention which politician Professor Spahić at the time assessed as the most complete personality in terms of appearance, speech, facial expression, and political culture. But I will say that he is still on the political scene today and there is no government without him. But that is not the point of this text.
Today, we see and hear in the public space those who do not know which schools and faculties they graduated from, yet they are doctors of science, ministers, mayors... Those who affectionately call their faculty a 'pimp' and whose diplomas have been annulled, and then lecture young people about education. There are also those who brought certificates of management experience from football clubs to become directors. And without any shame, they take on responsible jobs for which they have no knowledge or skills. There are also those who finished high school in Široki Brijeg at the age of 35. And they also have a say in Sarajevo today. A serious book could be written about the diplomas of the party cadres that form the government.
There are also those who, in their addresses at the sessions of the KS Assembly, the Federal or State Parliament, refer to themselves as "my humble self," perhaps believing they sound smarter.
There are also those for whom cases are not their strong suit, and sometimes it seems not all the letters of the alphabet. So, words with more than three syllables are also problematic, and reading their own initiatives doesn't help, although it often seems they are reading something they are seeing for the first time. That option is not excluded either.
And precisely these individuals are in public and important positions, writing and proposing laws that they do not even know the practical meaning of. We have had situations more than once where, after the adoption of a law, it turns out to be unenforceable, and then amendments are quickly made...
You have those who, for example, threaten neighboring countries from the position they hold, and then blame the media for asking how a general of the BiH Armed Forces was in Serbia at a military parade. However, when we saw how much alcohol is consumed from that position, many things become clear.
We also have those on our political scene who have been convicted of giving false testimony, violent behavior, and endangering security, yet today they hold some of the most important positions in BiH and the FBiH.
When Minister Ramo Isak stated on BHRT a few days ago that 90 percent of journalists and media are illiterate, the host did not even reprimand him. And why are the media illiterate for Ramo Isak? Because they asked for official information on who allowed a person with compromised security to enter the Federal MUP building (which also houses the Intelligence-Security Agency) to bring baklava to the minister. Since journalists do not know that Ramo Isak is the ruler of the FMUP building, then we are illiterate because we are doing our job. Perhaps the journalist managed to confuse the minister so much that in one show he didn't know which faculty he got his doctorate from, so he kept repeating the name of the university. So, it is also the journalists' fault when Ramo Isak does not know how many cantons there are in the Federation of BiH.
And if Minister Isak were truly doing his job, he would come out publicly and explain why there has been an increase in drug presence in FBiH. The official statistics from the Police Administration of the MUP KS are alarming. How is it that the routes through which drugs come to Sarajevo are not being intercepted, even though we have numerous police agencies? Consequently, we have more and more addicts, young people experimenting with drugs, but the only problem are those who have been coming for their therapy for years and are properly registered in the healthcare system.
When Elmedin Konaković, who also brought Isak and his son into power, promised in April 2023 that he would take responsibility for everything Isak did, good or bad, we have not seen where that responsibility is to this day. Perhaps Minister Konaković, as in the case of Nenad Nešić, will claim that he never said anything like that and that it was some "artificial intelligence."
And perhaps the best idea is to replace some ministers and public officials with robots and stop insulting our common sense.
