Slovenian Elections: First Exit Polls Released, Robert Golob's Freedom Movement Leads

(Patria) - Robert Golob could remain the Prime Minister of Slovenia. This is what the first exit polls from Slovenia indicate for now. Let's recall, in a close race are the current liberal Prime Minister Robert Golob (Freedom Movement) and the right-wing populist, political veteran Janez Janša (Slovenian Democratic Party).

According to the exit poll results conducted by the Mediana agency, the relative winner of the elections is Golob's Freedom Movement party with 29.9 percent of the votes, which would bring them approximately 30 parliamentary seats according to estimates. In second place is Janša's Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) with 27.5 percent of the votes and an estimated 27 seats in parliament.

The third place, according to the same estimates, belongs to the joint list of NSi, SLS, and Fokus with 9.4 percent of the votes, while the Social Democrats (SD) won 6.7 percent. Levica follows with 6.3 percent, then Anže Logar's Democrats with 5.9 percent, and Zoran Stevanović's Resnica also crosses the parliamentary threshold with 5.2 percent of the votes. These are preliminary results based on exit polls, while the final composition of the National Assembly will be known after the official vote count.

By 4 PM, 859,909 voters had cast their ballots in the Slovenian elections, or 50.73 percent of the total registered voters, announced the National Electoral Commission (DVK). The highest turnout was recorded in the Škofja Loka 2 electoral district, where 62.29 percent of voters went to the polls, while the lowest was in Maribor 4, with a turnout of 37.06 percent.
