Ibrahimović: Srebrenica is a conscience that warns us never again to remain silent in the face of evil

(Patria) - Edvin Ibrahimović, representative of Montenegro at the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, addressed the attendees with an emotional speech in which he emphasized the responsibility of every individual and society not to allow forgetting, silence, and denial.

"It is not easy for me today, neither as a representative of Montenegro nor as a human being, to find words that would condemn the horror that happened in Srebrenica 30 years ago strongly enough," said Ibrahimović.

He called for persistence in the fight for truth and justice:

"We must talk about Srebrenica persistently, truthfully, and unequivocally. It is our debt to the past and a pledge for the future. If we do not remember daily and demand that all perpetrators be punished – we must ask ourselves, before ourselves and before you: what have we done so that no future generation becomes a new victim of genocide?"

Ibrahimović pointed out that the victims' families have become the conscience of the entire region.

"Thirty years since you lost your loved ones, you have become the conscience of all of us – a conscience that does not give up on seeking justice, a conscience that obliges us to condemn the denial of crimes without compromise, and a conscience that teaches us that Srebrenica must never happen to anyone again."

At the end of his speech, Ibrahimović sent a strong message:

"Today, the least important thing is that I am a Bosniak. Because if Srebrenica is not a lesson in humanity for all of us, if it does not teach us empathy – then we do not even know who we are."
