Heroes in court, traitors in power: Political cowardice is destroying the state!

By: Amina Čorbo-Zećo

Current Bosniak/Bosnian politicians exhibit weak character and a subservient mentality, completely contrary to those who defended Bosnia and Herzegovina and became true heroes of our defense.

Instead of protecting the interests of the state and its citizens, today's government often shows obedience and tolerance towards those who undermine our country's sovereignty and security. This is best illustrated by the behavior of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elmedin Konaković, towards Croatia.

Unfortunately, today's government has even betrayed the country's defenders, allowing dozens of fabricated court proceedings aimed at equating victims and perpetrators. This is precisely what is happening through the cases of Atif Dudaković and others, Dobrovoljačka, Jošanica, Konjic, Čemerno, Bosanska Krupa...

The Chief Prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, Milanko Kajganić, emboldened by the lifting of sanctions against SNSD leader Milorad Dodik and his associates, is now poised, along with the acting prosecutor Vedrana Mijović, to drop the case of 'undermining the constitutional order'! Of course, the existence of sanctions did not speed up his work either. Now he has finally found his moment, and can fully turn his attention to prosecuting members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After all, he was appointed precisely for this purpose. If it were otherwise, he would not have signed an indictment copied from Serbia, written in ekavian, against Ejup Ganić and others.

Those who risked their lives to defend the country are now facing legal constructions and manipulations aimed at relativizing their sacrifice, while simultaneously ignoring the responsibility of those who committed crimes or undermined state institutions. The question is now open – what is more profitable, destroying institutions or defending them?

I am often 'well-meaningly' advised not to link prosecutions to war crimes and the current context in my articles. But that is precisely the point. Because those who built the state are being prosecuted, while those who are destroying it are left alone. Isn't that killing the will to defend the country?

And Milorad Dodik is an example of a person for whom an upright spine paid off, while the policy of compromise has completely disappeared. I hope the Trojka sees this now, and that such a policy cannot yield results beneficial to the state of BiH.

For years, it has been shown that strength and blackmail yield more results than respect for the law and the state. Of course, current affairs show that even those who call themselves patriots and pro-Bosnian politicians do not have a strong adherence to the law.

It is now clear that the state had to react by arresting Dodik, because the state holds a monopoly on force and is the only one that can and should protect the integrity of its institutions. If we are to be honest, we will remember that America also called for 'dealing with Dodik' in March. And the cowardice of the Trojka has resulted in what we are witnessing today.

And this is not just a matter of justice, but a matter of the state's survival and citizens' trust in it. Any attempt to relativize crimes or make political compromises at the expense of victims and defenders threatens the foundations of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

If the state does not show determination and strength, its authority is lost, and those who manipulate the system remain unpunished. If you don't believe this, look at the statistics and trials before the BiH Court. Those who defended us are sitting there, while the policies that inflicted untold evil continue to live unhindered.

In the end, this situation clearly shows the difference between those who were heroes of the defense and those who rule today, weak politicians without courage, backbone, or a sense of responsibility. True strength and stability of the state do not come from compromises with aggressors and destroyers of the constitutional order, but from consistent enforcement of laws and protection of those who gave everything for it. And we have failed them!
