Citizens and activists mark one month since the tragedy in Novi Sad

(Patria) - With a protest walk and a moment of silence, citizens and activists are marking one month since the accident in which 15 people died in the collapse of the railway station canopy in Novi Sad.

Participants, at the invitation of activists from youth associations "Stav" and "Sviće", gathered at the Railway Station symbolically at 11:52 AM, when the canopy collapsed, from where they started a walk to the central Liberty Square.

During the walk, they stop and pay silent tribute to each of the 15 victims of the accident, writes RSE.

In Liberty Square, in front of the City Hall, they plan to spill red paint, and the organizers have called on the attendees to observe the gathering in silence and not to respond to provocations.

Among the demands read out at the Railway Station are the resignation of the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, and the publication of all documentation regarding the reconstruction of the Railway Station.

The accident in Novi Sad triggered a wave of protests and blockades in Serbia, and the authorities responded by arresting participants. Incidents and fights also occurred in institutions where the opposition demanded accountability from the authorities for the accident.

Thirteen people have been arrested on suspicion of being responsible for the collapse of the canopy of the Novi Sad Railway Station building.

Goran Vesić, the arrested Minister of Construction and Transport, who resigned after the accident but denied responsibility, had his detention lifted after a few days.
