Croatian citizens warned of heavy rainfall

(Patria) - The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) has issued warnings for thunderstorms and heavy rain for tomorrow.

DHMZ first issued a yellow warning for the entire coast, Lika, and Dalmatian Zagora, but then raised the weather alert to red for the Rijeka region, which also includes Istria and Kvarner.

For this region, meteorologists are forecasting a huge amount of rain. They predict more than 150 mm of rain per square meter.

A yellow alert remains in effect for Lika, Dalmatia, Dalmatian Zagora, and the far south of Croatia.

Meteorologists warn that more intense thunderstorms, large amounts of precipitation in a short period, flash floods, storm-force winds, and hail are possible locally.

A green warning is in effect for the Karlovac region, including Banija. No warnings have been issued for northwestern and eastern Croatia at this time.

Citizens are advised to regularly monitor DHMZ forecasts and warnings and to follow official instructions to protect themselves and their property.

They are also warned that intense heavy rainfall can cause urban and flash floods.

A special appeal has been made to citizens living in flood-prone areas to take timely measures to protect their property.
