(Patria) - Finland has been ranked as the country with the happiest population in the world for the eighth consecutive time, according to the World Happiness Report released yesterday on the occasion of the International Day of Happiness.
In the report, jointly conducted by pollsters Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, and the UN initiative Sustainable Development Solutions Network, researchers analyzed the period between 2022 and 2024.
As in the previous year, all Nordic countries were among the top 10, with Finland followed by Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden. Norway is in seventh place.
The Netherlands returned to the top five, while Costa Rica (6th) and Mexico (10th) entered the top 10 for the first time. Among the top 20 are Slovenia, Switzerland, Belgium, and Austria.
Germany moved up from 24th to 22nd place, while the USA fell to 24th place - its worst position ever. France, Spain, and Italy are between 30th and 40th place.
Croatia is in 72nd place, with almost all countries in the region ahead of it. Besides Slovenia in 19th place, there are Kosovo (29th), Serbia (31st), BiH (56th), and Montenegro (71st), while North Macedonia is behind in 86th place.
The ranking includes 147 countries, with Afghanistan in last place. Happiness researchers have identified a number of key factors that generally make people happier, such as social support, income, health freedom, and perception of corruption.
