Epilogue of brutal brawl in the center of Zagreb: Two in hospital, three in custody

(Patria) - Several people have been arrested following yesterday's brawl in Zagreb's Ban Jelačić Square involving about twenty young people.

The police are conducting an investigation. There are injured, and the attacked were high school students from Split who came to Zagreb for a one-day school trip.

Three students from Split sought medical attention, while two were kept in the hospital. This is the epilogue of the mass brawl that occurred yesterday in the central square of Zagreb.

The injuries of one of the beaten 16-year-olds have been classified as severe.

(Patria) - A mass brawl involving about twenty masked youths broke out in Ban Jelačić Square in Zagreb this afternoon. It is not yet clear whether two groups clashed or if it was an organized attack on an individual.

- They arrived conscious, of course traumatized given the whole event, with physical injuries to their face, head, and body. They were examined, and imaging diagnostics were performed today, they are being kept for observation and will remain in the hospital today - said the acting director of the Children's Hospital Zagreb, Iva Hojsak.

The Maritime School in Split emphasizes that they informed the parents and relevant services immediately after the incident yesterday.

- We immediately informed the parents of all students and all relevant institutions. Of course, the well-being and safety of the students are our priority. If necessary, we will also organize psychological support - said director Mirela Žižić.

The brawl occurred yesterday around 4 PM. According to initial information, the students from Split, who arrived in Zagreb for a book fair and education at the Croatian National Bank, were attacked by a group of twelve peers from Zagreb. The cause of the conflict is still being determined.

The police arrested four participants, and the Croatian Minister of Internal Affairs, Davor Božinović, explained that they face a penalty for disturbing the peace, which can be punished by up to three years.

However, Božinović added - "we have the fact that only one person is with the police; three are, given their minor status, in the Center in Dugave, so their parents have been called".

After the criminal investigation of four minors, three suspects were handed over to the detention supervisor. The fourth detainee was released due to insufficient evidence to file a criminal complaint, but the criminal investigation is ongoing.
