Zoran Stevanović at the Helm of the Slovenian Parliament, New Government Still Not Formed

(Patria) - Leader of the Resnica party Zoran Stevanović is the new President of the Slovenian Parliament, elected on Friday in a secret ballot in which he was supported by 48 deputies, while 29 were against.

The vote for the president of the parliament is secret, and the candidate needed a majority of all deputies' votes to be elected, i.e., at least 46, which is why this procedure usually already indicates the possibility of a new coalition.

Stevanović was supported by the former opposition from the ranks of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) of Janez Janša and New Slovenia.

Against his election were deputies of the former ruling coalition from the Freedom Movement, Social Democrats, and deputies of the Left, who state that this is an introduction to the formation of Janša's fourth government.

The Resnica movement won five seats in the elections held on March 22 and is considered key for forming the government.

In the parliamentary elections, the most seats went to the Freedom Movement (29), while one less went to Janša's SDS.

Slovenia's prime minister from the previous term and relative election winner Robert Golob has so far held two rounds of post-election talks on forming a new government, but so far without results regarding a new government.
