(Patria) - Due to severe weather across much of Croatia, numerous faults occurred on the power grid, leaving approximately 18,000 users without electricity supply.
Croatian Electricity Company (HEP) stated that the most affected areas are northwestern Croatia, including Zagreb and its surroundings, Hrvatsko Zagorje and the Varaždin area, as well as parts of central Croatia such as Karlovac and Sisak-Moslavina counties, along with Gorski Kotar and parts of Lika and the Littoral.
The largest number of faults was caused by trees and branches falling on power lines, the weight of snow on conductors, and storm winds that topple poles and cause additional damage to the network, while remediation is further hampered by inaccessible terrain, snow, and water, HEP points out.
"All available field teams of HEP Distribution System Operator are on the ground and working intensively to repair faults, restore damaged infrastructure, and re-establish electricity supply.
However, at some locations, access to faults is difficult or currently impossible, which may affect the duration of the work," the HEP statement adds.
It is expected that most faults on the medium-voltage network will be resolved during the day, while faults on the low-voltage network in some areas will be addressed throughout the following day as well.
HEP asks users for understanding and patience.
