
(Patria) - The blockade of the Gazela bridge, organized by students on the occasion of the 100th day since the collapse of the canopy at the railway station in Novi Sad, which claimed the lives of 15 people, ended this evening around 6 PM.
Traffic was restored after seven hours of blockade, and the gathering, which was secured by the police throughout the day, passed without incident, Tanjug reports.
Students and citizens blocked traffic in both directions on the highway in front of Sava Centar starting at 11 AM, and the blockade under the slogan "We are trampling Gazela because you are trampling justice" was called by students of the Faculty of Agriculture.
A group of farmers with tractors joined the students who walked from the Faculty of Agriculture this morning, and students from technical and other faculties joined them in the blockade on Gazela.
During the several-hour protest, the participants paid tribute to the victims in Novi Sad with 15 minutes of silence, and students carrying banners with the names of the victims threw white roses into the Sava River.
According to media reports, five students from Kragujevac who started a "relay marathon" this morning arrived in Belgrade and intend to symbolically hand over invitations to Belgrade students for a protest they announced for February 15 in that city, as stated on social media.
According to media reports, students and groups of citizens gathered at two locations in Niš, and after paying tribute to the victims in Novi Sad, they blocked the Niš - Sever toll station on the highway under the slogan "it has come to toll".
It was announced that the blockade would last until 9 PM, after which the citizens' parliament would decide whether to extend the blockade until midnight.
Novi Sad students organized a blockade of three intersections on the approaches to the city from 11 AM to 2 PM, during which they paid tribute to the victims with 15 minutes of silence.
Media report that there were blockades and gatherings in Paraćin, Sombor, Zrenjanin, Čačak, and other places.
Students stated on social media that today marks 100 days since the canopy collapse, demanding accountability for the tragedy in which 15 people lost their lives.
