More than 10 candidates for President of Croatia, including four women

(Patria) - In the elections for the President of Croatia, citizens will choose from more than 10 candidates. The number of candidates is not yet final until the State Election Commission confirms the candidacies if the candidates meet all conditions.

The first round of presidential elections will most likely be held, as in the previous 2019 elections, before Christmas or between Christmas and New Year's – on Sunday, December 22 or 29. A possible, but very likely, second round would then be held on January 5 or 12, 2025.

The names known so far that are already appearing in the public sphere as candidates for President of the Republic of Croatia are the current president Zoran Milanović, who has the support of the SDP before and after the change of party leader, Dragan Primorac with the support of the HDZ and Andrej Plenković. Also in the running are Marija Selak Raspudić, Ivana Kekin, Branka Lozo, and Miro Bulj.

As Croatian N1 writes, candidacies have been announced by Tomislav Jonjić, Dražen Keleminec, Aurora Weiss, and Niko Tokić Kartelo.

The Government of the Republic of Croatia should make a decision on calling the elections in November, and within 12 days from the day of calling the elections, candidacies must be submitted to the State Election Commission.

The President of the Republic of Croatia is elected by Croatian citizens aged 18 and over, in direct elections by secret ballot for a term of 5 years.

Croatian citizens aged 18 and over can be elected President of the Republic of Croatia. The President of the Republic of Croatia, regardless of whether one or more candidates participate in the elections, is elected by a majority of votes of all voters who voted.

If no candidate for President of the Republic of Croatia receives a majority of votes of all voters who voted, the election is repeated after 14 days.

If more than one candidate participated in the elections, the right to be elected belongs to the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round. If any candidate withdraws, the right to be re-elected is acquired by the candidate who is next in the number of received votes.
