(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated this evening that Serbia made a mistake by voting for the resolution at the United Nations General Assembly confirming support for Ukraine and its territorial integrity.
Vučić told Happy television that Serbia should have abstained.
- I think Serbia made a mistake today, I apologize to the citizens for it and I take responsibility for it myself - said Vučić.
He adds that Serbia abstained on the US resolution proposal and voted "as it should have" on that one.
He stated that Serbia has "endured in the most difficult possible situation" for three years, when it comes to sanctions against Russia, adding that Serbia's position "will not be broken by one, two or three resolutions".
United Nations member states voted this evening for a resolution supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity.
The resolution, which was voted for by 93 countries, with 18 against and 65 abstentions - a drop in support compared to previous resolutions supporting Ukraine - reaffirmed "the General Assembly's commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine".
The US voted against the resolution proposed by Ukraine and European countries. Russia and 16 other countries also voted against it. Among EU countries, Hungary also voted against the resolution.
