Vučić: Sanctions on NIS will put us in a difficult situation, we need a plan and action, I will talk to Putin

(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić reiterated at a Serbian Government session that the US will impose sanctions on the Oil Industry of Serbia, but also provided additional details about these alleged plans, which have not been confirmed by Washington.

"It will not be sanctions against companies with Russian ownership, but direct sanctions on the oil industry of Serbia. These will be comprehensive, not financial sanctions," Vučić said at the Serbian Government session.

He said Serbia has been given a deadline of 30 days to find an "alternative solution," and that the final decision will be made on March 15.

Of course, Vučić continued with his narrative that this is an attempt to "destabilize Serbia," although he did not present evidence for it.

Let us recall that Gazprom, a Russian state-owned company for the production, distribution, and transport of natural gas and oil, owns 51 percent of NIS.

It is also worth noting that Serbia does not have an aligned foreign policy with the European Union, meaning it has not imposed sanctions on Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.

He said he would arrange a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The government should form two teams, but under the coordination of the Prime Minister, said the President of Serbia.

"I will help in the conversation with Putin, since he will not talk to anyone else, one is about the negotiations for the gas arrangement that we must reach, so that we have gas, the other concerns NIS," said Vučić.

He points out that we have a good connection with new people from the Trump administration who are important on this issue.

"If we don't succeed, we have to talk to the Russians. An absolutely last option must be a hostile takeover. When we know more that we cannot survive. I share the concern, all the reserves we have would cause chaos on the market. Before that, there are countless possibilities that we must discuss," he emphasized.

He expects to talk with the President of Russia before the end of the month.

"I will count on Putin, I will seek a conversation around St. John's Day, when I see what my conversations with the new American administration have brought," said Vučić and added that we must make a decision by February 15 what we will do about it.
