Vučić with Pistorius: Serbia will not surprise anyone with military or any other moves

Peace and stability are of crucial importance for everyone in the region and Europe, and instability is in no one's interest, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius agreed at the meeting.

"I gave my word that Serbia will not surprise anyone with military or any other moves," says Vučić.

"We talked about stability in the region and the need to have different views, especially regarding Kosovo and Metohija. We agreed that stability and peace are of crucial importance, not only for the people of the Western Balkans, but also, I would say, across Europe, and that no one has an interest in any escalation or instability," said Vučić in his address at the joint press conference with Pistorius.

Vučić said that the conversation with Pistorius was extremely open and quite honest on both sides.

"Because, when you conduct a conversation with kid gloves, you are not always entirely sure what you heard or what you said. I thank Mr. Pistorius for his visit to the Republic of Serbia. Germany is the most important economic partner for our country," said Vučić.

Speaking about Kosovo and Metohija, Vučić said there is no agreement on the removal of the dinar from Kosovo and Metohija, pointing out that Serbia, in accordance with the United Nations Charter, considers the removal of the dinar from Kosovo and Metohija completely unlawful and that this is not a matter of transitional provisions or granting more time.

Germany is one of the main protagonists of the recognition of independent Kosovo and that policy.

“We have good communication with NATO, professional and very correct. We will continue to have such cooperation in the future," said Vučić.

Pistorius said that a peaceful and stable region is in the interest as a future partner of the European Union.

"It goes without saying that we discuss all issues, and Serbia is an important partner for us, the largest economic factor in the region with corresponding influence. Serbia, as the most important country, exerts its positive influence to achieve this long-term stability in the region and throughout Europe. The Western Balkans is not only a cultural and geographical, but also a political part of Europe, I have no doubt about that," said Pistorius.

The German minister conveyed that Vučić assured him that Serbia will not do anything that would threaten stability in the region.

"We proceed from the assumption that Serbia will not support any possible secessionist tendencies in the Republika Srpska, but will advocate for the integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina," added Pistorius.

Vučić said that EU accession remains Serbia's goal and that, accordingly, very fair and honest elections were held, and that Serbia will accept all ODIHR recommendations.

"We invited members and representatives of ODIHR to participate in observing even our local elections, although it is not our obligation, but we did that to show that we are hiding nothing because I believe we have such a strong and clear legitimacy," said Vučić.

He also emphasized that Serbia supports the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an internationally recognized state and has never questioned the integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, just as it has never questioned the integrity of the entity of Republika Srpska within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"And we have respected every agreement and will always respect in the future the agreement of the three peoples, the consensus of the three peoples and the Dayton Peace Agreement and the actual implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, not an interpretation as it suits someone," said Vučić.
