(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić yesterday called on students to return to university lecture halls, pupils to their schools, and told teachers and professors to "earn their salaries, instead of expecting someone to pay them for something they haven't earned".
- I am telling this to professors too, because miners have to earn their salaries through hard work, and everyone who works - Vučić said, addressing citizens at a rally in Požarevac.
He also stated that the "coloured revolution" in Serbia has failed.
Vučić and other government representatives have repeatedly referred to mass protests due to the demolition of the canopy at the Novi Sad railway station and the suffering of 15 people as attempts at a "coloured revolution" and the overthrow of the state.
Protests that have overthrown authoritarian regimes in former Soviet countries are called "coloured revolutions".
Students leading the protests in Serbia are demanding accountability from the authorities for the accident in Novi Sad and insist that they are not seeking the overthrow of the government.
They are blocking more than 60 faculties in cities across Serbia. A number of secondary schools have joined them.
Student demands have been supported by their professors, educators, lawyers, actors, farmers, and other citizens.
