Vučić signs consent for reintroduction of compulsory military service in Serbia

(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said he has signed consent for regular military service lasting 75 days.

The announcement of this information was met with applause from ceremony guests.

„I want to believe that the Government of Serbia will adopt this decision. I want to believe that you all understand how much we need a strong army, how much more we will have to buy weapons, to produce, to create. Because it is not our desire to attack anyone. Nor will we do that. But our desire is to deter all those who threaten us furiously every day“, Vučić said in his address at the ceremony promoting 177 cadets of the Military Academy and the Faculty of Medicine of the Military Medical Academy to their first officer ranks.

Vučić recently said that the state is considering introducing military service lasting 60 plus 15 days, which would be compulsory for men, while women would still be able to serve voluntarily.
