Vučić: By some miracle we managed to preserve peace, there will be no civil war

(Patria) - Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić addressed the citizens after the riots that broke out last night at anti-government protests in Novi Sad and Belgrade.

Vučić announced that 16 police officers were injured, two of them seriously, as well as 64 citizens in the SNS premises in Novi Sad.

He emphasized that "they did not even consider deploying the army and that there will be no civil war, and announced the arrest of those responsible for the violence."

- A difficult evening for the citizens of Serbia. By some miracle we managed to preserve peace - said Vučić.

As he stated, control is being established.

- We will see to it that during the night we arrest the people who wanted to "lead Serbia into a civil war."

We avoided a catastrophic scenario. Only in the SNS premises in Novi Sad, 64 citizens were injured - Vučić points out.

He adds that five members of the "Kobre" unit were also injured.

He stated that at least 16 police officers were injured, two of them seriously - broken jaw and chest injuries, both in Belgrade.

- People in Serbia must know that we did not even consider deploying the army on the streets, there will be no civil war, we invite them to talk.

We are taking measures and the cleaning of Belgrade's streets is underway, and soon the cleaning of Novi Sad will follow - says Vučić, adding that there was "rampaging in other cities as well."

He emphasized that the state is strong enough, and that "some thought they could kill people."

- We will respect our opponents, but we will have no mercy for thugs, bullies and hooligans - Vučić concluded.
