Vučević: We Did Not Provoke US Sanctions on NIS Through Any Act

(Patria) - Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević stated today that his country did not provoke US sanctions on the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) through any act, and that it should avoid involvement in major geopolitical disputes.

Vučević told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) that both citizens and the economy will have sufficient quantities of energy products.

According to him, while talks with the Americans continue to clarify what exactly these sanctions mean, the state will simultaneously hold talks with Russia to find the best way to overcome the situation.

- Although the deadline is not long, it will be sufficient to find a solution with calmness and responsibility - Vučević stated.

He added that the Government and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, are holding a joint meeting today with the US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard Verma, with strategic dialogue being one of the topics.

- Energy is the dominant topic, but not the only one. There will be many open topics, and one of the sub-topics must be clarification regarding NIS.

Since this has happened to us, it is good that we will have a meeting with a high-level US delegation today and be better informed about what steps to take next - said the Serbian Prime Minister.
