Vladimir Orlić appointed new director of Serbian BIA

(Patria) - The Serbian National Security Council gave its consent at today's session for the official and Member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Vladimir Orlić to be appointed director of the Security Information Agency (BIA), the cabinet of the President of Serbia announced.

At the session of the National Security Council, chaired by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, the current security situation was also discussed, "with a special focus on the situation in Serbia".

Vladimir Orlić was a member of the ruling SNS in the National Assembly of Serbia for several terms, and from 2022 to 2024, he also headed the Serbian parliament.

Although it was mentioned that Orlić could replace the current Prime Minister Miloš Vučević as Minister of Defence, that position ultimately went to Bratislav Gašić.

When all positions in the ministries were distributed, it was noticeable that the position of BIA director was vacant, and Orlić was left without a position.

Therefore, speculation immediately began that he could become its new director.

Orlić has been a member of the SNS since 2008, where he held positions in the field of information and media, as well as organizational affairs, and was also a party representative in the working bodies of the European People's Party.

He was a candidate for councilor in the City Assembly of Belgrade on the SNS list in 2012, 2014, and 2018, and for councilor in the Assembly of the Municipality of Čukarica in 2016. He was a councilor in the City Assembly of Belgrade from 2016 to 2022.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament from the list led by the SNS in 2014, 2016, 2020, and 2022.

Orlić served as the Deputy Speaker of the SNS parliamentary group in parliament from 2016 to 2020, and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from 2020 to 2022, and from 2022 to 2023, he was the Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia.
