Major Search in Serbia: Two Men Mysteriously Disappear

(Patria) - Firefighters, police and locals have been searching for two men near Leskovac since Thursday, identified as neighbours K.S. (38) and A.S. (47).

All trace of them has been lost near Lake Barje near Leskovac, and since the morning of February 20, the Rescue and Water Operations Team of the Emergency Situations Sector, as well as members of the Fire and Rescue Battalion from Leskovac, have joined the search.

A Telegraf team recorded harrowing scenes: as boats from the Emergency Situations Sector "cut through" the calm but dangerous surface of the lake, divers and rescuers check every metre of the shoreline.

"The situation is extremely difficult. Lake Barje is known for its depths and branches at the bottom, which makes sonar work difficult. Our people have been on the ground since early dawn, and the focus is currently on the area where a signal was last located or equipment was seen," says a source from the investigation.

Teams have been formed to walk the inaccessible parts of the shore, hoping to find any trace – a piece of clothing, fishing gear, or a boat.

Visibly shaken friends of the missing fishermen are also at the scene. According to them, these are people who had been coming to this lake for years and were considered experienced water experts.

Although there is still no official confirmation of the cause of the disappearance, speculation on the ground suggests that extremely low temperatures and a possible boat malfunction could have been fatal. Police are also present and are inspecting all traces found near the spot where the fishermen were last seen.

According to initial information, the two men were staying at their weekend house in the village of Crcavac. It is learned that the family began to suspect something was wrong when calls to their mobile phones went unanswered since the early morning hours.

After all attempts to contact them failed, the case was reported to the Police Administration in Leskovac, which immediately mobilised its teams. The case was reported by the brother of one of the missing fishermen.

A heavy silence hangs over the village. Neighbours describe the missing men as people who know this area well, which further deepens the mystery of their disappearance, Kurir reports.
