Fiery clash in Podgorica cafe garden, six injured, one arrested

(Patria) - Six people were injured in a shooting in Podgorica late last night. 23-year-old Mihailo Lakušić was arrested.

According to Vijesti, D.F. (38) was shot in the back and is in critical condition. Nineteen-year-old V.Đ. sustained a knee injury, L.Š., four years older, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, U.Lj. (37) was injured in the arm, I.M. (25) was shot in the leg, while police officer I.J. (43) has a gunshot wound to the arm.

Cafe argument?

The Police Administration of Montenegro announced that the shooting is suspected to have been preceded by an argument in a cafe.

"Around 00:18, the Duty Service of the Podgorica Security Department was notified that a firearm was used by an unknown person in the garden of a catering facility in the city center. Six people sustained injuries, five of whom suffered minor bodily injuries to their lower extremities, while one person sustained a gunshot wound to the back and is not in life-threatening condition," the police announced about three hours after midnight.

Suspect fled, arrested in Malo brdo settlement

The injured were immediately provided with medical assistance at the Clinical Center of Montenegro, they said.

"Immediately and without delay, police officers arrived at the scene and secured it, and urgent measures and actions were taken to clarify all circumstances of the event, as well as to locate and apprehend the suspect, after which he was identified in a short period as suspect L.M. (23) from Podgorica, who fled in an unknown direction after using the firearm. Police officers conducted an on-site investigation, established immediate and wider cordons, collected information from dozens of people, and seized video surveillance from several facilities, and after reviewing several locations, suspect L.M. was found and apprehended in Fruškogorska Street in the Malo brdo settlement in a short period," the statement reads.

The state prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica was informed of the event and conducted an on-site investigation with police officers.

L.M. will be brought to the prosecutor's office within the legal deadline.
