Fire engulfs Biokovo Nature Park: Centuries-old Dalmatian black pine forest burning

(Patria) - Fires in Tučepi and Podgora are still not extinguished. Firefighters from inland Croatia are arriving to assist in extinguishing the fires.

Firefighters are trying to stop the fire descending from Biokovo, so it does not spread towards Tučepi. According to some estimates, 900 hectares have burned. The fire has engulfed about 100 hectares within Biokovo Nature Park, where a centuries-old forest of indigenous Dalmatian black pine is burning.

Firefighters were on duty at the fire site all night. They say they fear the southerly wind could pick up, creating new problems.

Although water bombers are participating in extinguishing the fire, it is still not out. Fortunately, human lives have been saved.
