UN: Resolution adopted condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine, BiH voted 'for', US was against

(Patria) - The United Nations General Assembly today in New York adopted a resolution condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion.

The resolution refers to the "full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation" and recalls the importance of implementing all previous resolutions adopted in response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

For the Ukrainian resolution, sponsored by EU member states, 93 countries voted in favor - including Bosnia and Herzegovina, 65 abstained, and 18 voted against - including the US and Russia.

As for countries from the region, the following voted in favor: Albania, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia, while North Macedonia abstained.

In addition to the US and Russia, the following voted against: Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Israel, Hungary, Mali, Marshall Islands, Nicaragua, Niger, Palau and Sudan.

At the same time, the US proposed its own resolution which did not include condemnation of aggression and respect for Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Later, European countries added amendments to the text of that resolution, including clear support for Ukrainian sovereignty.

The amended version of the resolution was also adopted, but the US decided to abstain from voting after those amendments.
