Doctor Arrested on Suspicion of Obstetric Violence

(Patria) - Police officers in Sremska Mitrovica arrested M.M. (45), a doctor at the General Hospital in that city, on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of "serious offenses against human health".

The statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs states that the arrested doctor, by order of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Sremska Mitrovica, will be detained for up to 48 hours, during which time, along with the criminal complaint, he will be brought before the prosecutor's office.

Mother Marica Mihajlović from Šid accused gynecologist-obstetrician M.M. from the maternity ward of the hospital in Sremska Mitrovica of insulting and injuring her during childbirth, which, as she stated, led to the death of her baby and severe injuries to herself.

A protest was held in front of the Ministry of Health in the center of Belgrade due to this case.
