Czech arrested for brutal night-time spree of smashing cars in Split

(Patria) - Intensive criminal investigation, as a consequence of the vandalistic night from Friday to Saturday in which 18 vehicles were demolished in the wider Split area, has resulted in the first arrest.

The Split police confirmed to Slobodna Dalmacija that a Czech citizen is accused of smashing car windows in the wider Stinice area. He was detained on Sunday morning on suspicion of committing six to seven counts of aggravated theft.

Based on the collected evidence, the police have reasonable suspicion that the arrested person is the perpetrator of multiple criminal offenses, some completed and some attempted.

An intensive search is still underway for the person who, on the same night, demolished windows on a number of cars in the Brda and Ravne Njive areas in a destructive spree.

The police state that the puzzle of the brutal night-time spree, which disturbed citizens and caused material damage to the victims, is slowly being put together.

Unprecedented vandalism in Split: As many as 18 cars smashed in multiple locations

(Patria) - Vandalism of a larger scale occurred in Split on the night between Friday and Saturday, during which an unknown perpetrator, potentially more than one, damaged 18 cars. The barbaric rampage was recorded in Brda, and at two locations in Ravne Njive,

"We have material and other evidence, due to which we reasonably suspect that the arrested Czech citizen is the perpetrator of several criminal offenses in the wider Stinice area.

Upon completion of the criminal investigation, we will know exactly what we are charging him with. For now, we reasonably suspect six to seven offenses.

Regarding the demolition of vehicles in Brda and Ravne Njive, we confirm the continuation of the criminal processing. We are proceeding step by step.

During the criminal investigation, at least two police patrols will be constantly present in that area to, among other things, prevent new incidents of this kind," stated the Split-Dalmatia Police Department.

Let us remind you, Split had a turbulent night from Friday to Saturday, during which 18 vehicles were demolished across several city districts. The morning revealed the damage from the destructive rampage, which caused public concern.

Numerous scenarios were considered in Marjan, and city circles suspected various causes, from the destructive spree of a mentally ill person to the rampage of young people.

Split police officers promptly responded and quickly tracked down one of the perpetrators. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
