Association Guardians of Bosnia nominates Prof. Dr. Nermin Granov for the April 6th Award of the City of Sarajevo in 2025

(Patria) - The Association Guardians of Bosnia is pleased to inform the public that we have successfully nominated Prof. Dr. Nermin Granov for the April 6th Award of the City of Sarajevo in 2025.

"Dr. Granov has long been recognized as one of the greatest cardiac surgeons, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina but also throughout the region and the world. His dedicated work and knowledge have made him the best medical ambassador for Bosnia and Herzegovina in both the West and the East of the planet.

We have nominated Prof. Dr. Granov for the April 6th Award in the field of healthcare due to the fact that on the night of August 4th to 5th, 2024, he placed Bosnia and Herzegovina, the city of Sarajevo, and the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo on the map of transplant centers," stated the Association Guardians of Bosnia.

They added: "That night, Prof. Dr. Granov and his team performed the first successful heart transplant in Bosnia and Herzegovina, giving hope for life not only to the patient who received the new heart but also to all other patients who have been waiting for a transplant for years".

"Heart transplantation in Bosnia and Herzegovina marked our country's entry into the ranks of medically advanced nations capable of performing the most complex surgical procedures. This transplantation has certainly elevated Bosnia and Herzegovina's international reputation in the field of medicine.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Granov is internationally recognized and has received multiple awards for his achievements, and the fact that he continuously performs complex surgical procedures at the most prestigious clinics in Europe and the world places him among the greatest cardiac surgeons of today," say Guardians of Bosnia.

"We believe that the April 6th Award for Prof. Dr. Granov would be an adequate expression of gratitude for all he has done for the KCUS, the city of Sarajevo, and our homeland, which enjoys a good reputation thanks to his successes.

The fact that the nomination of Prof. Dr. Granov was supported by three former mayors of Sarajevo: Semiha Borovac, Tarik Kupusović, and Abdulah Skaka, demonstrates this.

We hope that the competent commission and the City Council will understand the intention of our nomination, to highlight the successes of BiH medicine in this way as well, and to thank the most deserving for these successes, which Prof. Dr. Granov undoubtedly is," the statement from the Association Guardians of Bosnia concluded.
