(Patria) - The exhibition "Mrtvare" by BiH photographer Armin Durgut was officially opened at the Cultural and Information Center in Zagreb, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.
The exhibition was organized by the Embassy of BiH in Croatia, in cooperation with the Srebrenica Memorial Center and the Federal Ministry of Displaced Persons and Refugees.
The exhibition presents a powerful artistic testimony to the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica and Podrinje, through symbolism and silence that speaks louder than words.
The opening was attended by the Ambassador of BiH in Croatia Elma Kovačević-Bajtal, the Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center Emir Suljagić, the President of the Meshihat of the Islamic Community in Croatia, academician Aziz ef. Hasanović, and the representative of the Government of Croatia Zvonimir Frka-Petešić.
On that occasion, Ambassador Kovačević-Bajtal announced the issuance of the first postage stamp dedicated to Srebrenica by Hrvatska pošta, which will enter circulation on June 5, 2025.
The stamp bears the motif of the number 8372 on a black background – in memory of the victims of the genocide.
- This stamp is a powerful act of resistance against denial and an important symbol of memorial justice. Thank you to Croatia for recognizing the importance of this initiative - stated Ambassador Kovačević-Bajtal, with special thanks to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Hrvatska pošta.
Suljagić emphasized that the truth about the genocide is the foundation of the culture of remembrance and appealed to the international community to be an ally in preserving that truth.
- Our mandate is to tell our story - beyond borders, to people - Suljagić said.
Mufti Hasanović reminded that forgetting the genocide is a new genocide and added that only a culture of remembrance can lead us to the truth, and truth to freedom.
The Zagreb Soloists quartet participated in the program, and on the same day, a screening of the documentary film "Samir Mehić BOWIE - Letters from Srebrenica", dedicated to the story of friendship, music, and war, was organized.
The exhibition "Mrtvare" and the issuance of the postage stamp represent a deep act of remembrance and commitment to truth, justice, and mutual understanding – so that the tragedy of Srebrenica is never repeated anywhere again.
