(Patria) - Gatherings of citizens and activists "Zastani Srbijo" - 15 minutes of silence in memory of the 15 victims of the canopy collapse in Novi Sad on November 1st were held in several Serbian cities today.
Incidents occurred in Novi Sad as the opposition entered the City Hall and blocked the institution. Gendarmerie later arrived in front of the building.
Citizens and students in large numbers paid tribute to the victims of the canopy collapse with blockades and fifteen minutes of silence at 11:52 AM.
Before yesterday's blockade under the Vuk monument, a car hit a student from the Faculty of Law, after which her colleagues organized a protest in front of the faculty and marched to the Republic Public Prosecutor's Office.
The Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, stated that "the opposition forcibly entered the City Hall" and that this is "unprecedented for Novi Sad".
He said at a press conference that opposition councilors had entered and blocked the City Hall.
"They forcibly entered the City Hall, which is unprecedented for Novi Sad. This is just another proof, starting from November 5th, that the opposition has no intention of coming to power through peaceful, democratic, electoral means, as is the only way to gain power, but only and exclusively through violence and by means of violence, and that the 'peaceful' protests exclusively had the plan to forcibly enter public institutions," he said.
Several cultural events scheduled for this evening in Belgrade have been cancelled due to the incident in which a student from the Faculty of Law was injured during blockades in Ruzveltova Street.
A minor incident was also recorded today when a driver attempted to pass through the lines of the first stewards who came out to block the intersection before 11:52 AM.
