Protests against lithium mine opening in Serbia tonight, more announced in 18 cities in coming days

(Patria) - Organized by environmental associations, protests against the opening of a lithium mine will be held in five cities tonight, and in at least 18 more cities by the end of the week.

Tonight starting at 7 PM, protests will be held in Rača, Smederevo, Rekovac, and Bresnica, and in Bor at 6 PM.
A protest in Inđija will be held tomorrow at the Square near the Post Office, at 7 PM.

Tomorrow, residents of Sremska Mitrovica have also scheduled a "Great People's Gathering against Rio Tinto" in front of the "Pinki" Sports and Business Center (7 PM).

Residents of Pomoravlje will also gather tomorrow at 7 PM in Jagodina, and their message in the protest invitation reads: "If you are not a farmer, you will not dig here or bring in someone else's waste".

Also tomorrow, Tuesday, August 6, starting at 8 PM, residents of Knić will protest against the opening of the lithium mine in front of the Culture Center.

For Wednesday, August 7, protests are scheduled in four cities. Residents of Kragujevac will gather on the plateau in front of the Department Store, and residents of Novi Sad near the monument to Svetozar Miletić. In Bajina Bašta and Obrenovac, protests will be held in city squares, all starting at 7 PM.

On Thursday, August 8, residents of Gornji Milanovac are organizing a "Stop Rio Tinto" protest in the City Park (7 PM). At the same time, citizens of Subotica (Freedom Square), Smederevska Palanka (near the Fountain), and Kruševac on the Square of Kosovo Heroes will protest.

Under the slogan "Heroes follow me", the protest of Čačak residents is scheduled for Friday, August 9, in the City Square (7 PM), as well as in Niš (near the Mayor's Office), Vranje (plateau in front of the Department Store), Lazarevac in front of the Miners' Fountain, and Vladimirovac near the Municipal Building.

Environmental associations have announced a large protest against the opening of the lithium mine for Saturday, August 10, on Terazije in Belgrade.

In recent days, mass protests by citizens against the lithium mine have been held in Loznica, Valjevo, Ljig, Barajevo, Bogatić, Grocka, Kraljevo, Negotin, Koceljeva, Šabac, Arilje, Aranđelovac, Krupanj, Mladenovac, Kosjerić, Paraćin, Požega, Mionica, Raška, Pančevo, Topola, Osečina...

At all gatherings, it was demanded that the authorities adopt a law on the permanent ban of geological exploration and exploitation of lithium and boron in Serbia.

The deadline for adopting this law, set by environmental associations for the authorities, is August 10.
